It´s not easy to choose amongst the abundant offers for activities in the Bay of islands. There are many possibilities for enjoying adventures, sports but also cultural and historical activities in the Bay of Islands. In Russel there is a very interesting museum to be viewed. Located in the York Street this museum informs about the history of Russel and therefore also about the first european settlements in New Zealand. Very fascinating is the model ship Endeavour (scale 1:5).
Kerikeri is home to the Kemp House (1831) and the Stone Store (1833). The Stone Store is the oldest home built of stones and the kemp House is the oldest house of New Zealand.
On the neighbouring side of the Kerikeri River Riwa Village can be viewed. This Maori culture centre was built on the location where Chief Rewa used to live.
Waitangi: This historic location should not be missed while travelling through New Zealand, because this is the location of the first signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between Maori Chiefs and the British Crown in 1840.
The Bay´s some 150 islands - many of which remain relatively unexplored, are the perfect background to charter a boat and explore the beauty of the Bay. Urupukapuka is a small island in the centre of the Bay of Islands. Doc is looking after it and there is accommodation on the island.
There is an abundance of beautiful beaches all over the Bay of Islands. The whole in the rock is another tourist attraction. Swimming with Dolpins is possible, Haruru eaterfall in Kerikeri is a short stroll away.
